A wife had a strange call

An apprehensive housewife hurried to answer the telephone’s ring and felt a wave of relief as she heard the kind voice on the other end inquire,
“Darling, how are you? How has your day been?”
“Oh, mother,” the housewife responded, tears trailing down her cheeks, “It’s been an absolutely dreadful day. The baby has been refusing to eat, and the washing machine has broken down. I haven’t had a moment to go grocery shopping, and to make matters worse, I sprained my ankle and can hardly walk.”
She continued, “And as if that weren’t enough, the house is in complete disarray, and we’re expecting two couples over for dinner tonight.”
The mother was taken aback and offered her immediate sympathy. “Oh, my dear,” she comforted, “Take a seat, try to relax, and close your eyes. I’ll be there in thirty minutes. I’ll handle the shopping, tidy up the house, and prepare dinner. I’ll take care of the baby, and I know a reliable repairman who can quickly fix the washing machine.”
“Please, stop your tears. I’ve got everything under control. In fact, I’ll even give George a call at his office and tell him he should come home and lend a hand for once.”
“George?” the housewife inquired. “Who is George?”
“Why, George! Your husband!… Isn’t this the number 223-1374?”
“No, this is 232-1374.”
“I apologize. It seems I dialed the wrong number.”
There was a momentary pause, and the housewife asked,
“… Does that mean you won’t be coming over?”
