Munmun Majhi, 33, had locked herself and her son inside their home in 2020, not allowing her husband, Sujan Majhi, to enter after he returned from work. Despite Sujan’s efforts to provide groceries and support from a distance, Munmun refused to leave the house.

Concerned for his wife and son’s well-being, Sujan approached the police, who initially did not believe his story. After a video call with Munmun, officers became aware of the situation and eventually convinced her to leave the house. However, her son was not with her, and officers found him inside the house where he had spent the last three years drawing and writing on walls.

The police were shocked by the amount of garbage inside the house and feared that if they had waited any longer, something terrible could have happened. Munmun and her son were taken to the hospital, where a medical team, including psychiatrists, evaluated them. Both were found to have psychological issues and were referred to a psychiatric ward for treatment.

Sujan was overjoyed to have his family back and thanked the police for their help. He hopes that with proper treatment, his family’s health will be restored, and their lives will be back on track soon.

This is a heartbreaking story of the impact of fear and isolation on mental health. Munmun’s extreme actions may seem irrational, but they stem from a deep-seated fear of COVID-19. The pandemic has caused significant disruptions to daily life and has forced people to adapt to a new reality.
