Toby Keith had graced the People’s Choice Country Awards in Nashville the previous month, where he was honored with the inaugural Country Icon Award. Following the trophy presentation by Blake Shelton, Toby picked up his guitar and delivered a poignant rendition of his heartfelt ballad, “Don’t Let The Old Man In.”
This moment was particularly significant as the 62-year-old legend had been battling stomach cancer since the fall of 2021. His performance at the PCCA marked his first televised appearance since his diagnosis.
Toby Keith shared with the press before the night’s show that he was feeling good, despite the ups and downs of his cancer battle, describing it as “a little bit of a roller coaster.”
